Residui Teatro (Spain)

Residui Teatro is an international company created in Rome from a theater research workshop led by Paolo Vignolo (sociologist and member of the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics of Colombia) and Marta Ruiz (choreographer of Adra-Dance, Colombia) and since 2000 it has been directed by Gregorio Amicuzi.

The Company follows the idea of a theater that encourages personal and social transformation. The work of the company is based on the methodology and the techniques of: physical-theater, singing, dance-theater, sensorial theater and playful interaction.

The company has been formed by international masters such as: Eugenio Barba, Iben Nagel Rasmussen, Roberta Carreri, Julia Varley and Else Marie Laukvik (Odin Teatret, Denmark); Luis Ibar and Alma Bernal (Cartaphilus Theater Company, Mexico); Vladimir Olshansky (guest artist from Cirque du Soleil and artistic director of Soccorso Clown, Italy/Russia); Enrique Vargas (Teatro de los Sentidos, Colombia); Keiin Yoshimura (Japan) and Susanne Linke (Susanne Linke Company, Germany). None of the members of the company has received a formal education in theater. From the very start we have been looking for the masters from whom we could learn the principles of the work, the poetic and the method. Thanks to the meetings with our masters we have learned the principles corresponding to the different disciplines connected to the performance arts and coming from different parts of the world. At first, this quest was only intended to benefit the members of the company, but it was transformed into a project of education open to young people interested in performance arts, the Craft Centre of Performing Arts (C.A.A.E- CENTRO DE ARTESANÍA DE LAS ARTES ESCÉNICAS).

What has inspired us from the very start to do theater was the idea of bringing about the meeting with the other in a dimension different to what the socio-economic logic suggests in our daily lives. This “meeting” causes a transformation on a personal level as well as the level of the community, on a smaller scale.

During the years, refining this artistic quest has helped the development of the poetic discourse of the company. We are interested in a theater where there is a space for the uncertainties of the creators, for the reflection on the socio-political events that surround us, and for the meeting. A theater where it is possible to create from the dialogue between one ́s biography (roots) and one ́s dreams.
